7.2 gave overloads on this machine when I was using it as my DAW, but nowhere near this often.Ī friend of mine will also be testing 8 on a 2.4GHz Macbook Pro with 4GB of memory. I'll be testing it on my iMac (1 generation old) tonight (also 2.16GHz, with same amount of RAM but bigger/faster hard drive). I haven't had to freeze anything but the largest of my projects in a couple of years with multicore machines. Still a buzz kill, and you have to freeze EVERYTHING for it to work consistently. I'm also playing around with freezing everything before playback, which definitely helps. That's NOT a viable long term solution, IMHO. I usually have to rewind and playback 2 or 3 times until it will play back the entire project. There are workarounds, like rewinding and starting the playback of the project over, which works for me around 50% of the time. I get Audio Overloads continuously and chronically, on 4 track projects with only two instruments (3rd party, and LP included). I do almost entirely MIDI instruments (virtual) and a smattering of audio loops.ĭoesn't work at all on even the tiniest of projects. I'm "running" it on the middle model of the current line of Macbooks - 2.16GHz with 1.5GB memory.

The problem of course is money and the fact that I haven't been able to figure out how to grow it on trees yet. I don't want to be "just able" to run Logic Studio. Is there anyone just using macbook out there? Are you able to run enough tracks, effects, instrument ect? The main problem with the ibook is that it maxes out at 2GB.

I was thinking that I couldn't go wrong with a macbook pro but it's going to blow my budget BIG time. Running Logic 7 can only give me about 3 instruments 1 reverb and 20 audio tracks before I get the "error", So according to this, I could run it on my 1.33 GHz ibook with 1Gb RAM.
